Protocol Understanding
An important protocol of understanding in favour of the Friulian language was signed on 06.07.07 by the Region FVG (represented by Councillor Antonaz), the Province of Udine (Mr. Strassoldo, President), ARLEF (Mr. Fabbro, President) and SAF AUTOSERVIZI FVG (Mr. Barbiero, Managing Director) that gives way to a co-operation to promote the Friulian language through local public transport.
After a press conference on board a bus through the centre of Udine, the protocol was signed at the Palazzo of the Regional Authorities, where the programme was illustrated in detail.
It is an agreement that involves the integration of SAFs institutional communications in the Friulian language as well, including the corporate web pages, even though the company has already published material in Friulian: the vehicle regulations and leaflets to be kept inside the vehicle have already been translated.
The intention of the signing parties is to include the local language on bill-boards, tickets and timetables in the various stations, to mention a few examples. A musical CD in Friulian is also envisaged for buses transporting students, and the SAF employees will be given the opportunity to attend the Friulian language courses promoted by both the Region and Province. The representative of the executive committee will be appointed next week to evaluate each individual initiative. And it will be then that the ideas will start to materialise.
«This is only the first of a series of initiatives that ARLEF has implemented, and the hope of the President of the Agency, Mr. Lorenzo Fabbro is that there will be many to follow as a result of contacts with public and private bodies». On the Province’s side, said Mr. Strassoldo yesterday, we are assessing the feasibility of information being available in Friulian in the bus shelters as well.
